On the road from Bethany, Jesus stopped at a fig tree.
Hungry was the Son of God — He looked for fruit, yet found none.
He cursed the tree and it died; in amazement Peter cried,
“Look, Rabbi! The tree is dead!” Jesus turned to him and said,
“Truly, truly, this is what I say to you,
If you believe, this is what you can do,
If you say to that mountain, ‘Throw yourself into the sea’,
And if you’ve asked the Lord in faith, watch, you shall receive.”
O, people of the living God, the way we pray is so flawed!
Our courage and our strength is weak when we present things we seek.
God tells us to boldly ask for what we need in every task;
Each prayer of ours He will fulfill— according to His gracious will.
